CPR/FIRST AID PUBLIC SAFETY INFO

Use Taos Search and Rescue's free library of tips

to remain safer in the backcountry!

CPR/FIRST AID  TIP 1

A knowledgeable bystander can double the chance of survival for a victim of sudden cardiac arrest by starting CPR immediately rather than waiting for the EMS. Using an AED can increase the chance of survival seven-fold if started within two minutes or three-fold if started with 10 minutes.

CPR/FIRST AID TIP 2

Pain or pressure deep in the chest at the sternum, often brought on by exercise and relieved by rest, are well-known symptoms suggesting angina, which is a precursor to heart attack. Lesser-known symptoms include jaw, stomach, or back pain; shortness of breath; intense fatigue; and a rapid or irregular heart rate. Like men, women also suffer from heart disease, though usually later in life, and can present such atypical symptoms as the ones listed above.

CPR/FIRST AID TIP 3

Opioid addicts, along with their families and friends, and patients on therapeutic opioids can be provided the training and medications to reverse otherwise fatal overdoses.
